Keltler Tarihöncesi ve ilkçağ döneminde Avrupa’da yaşayan ve günümüzde altı ulustan oluşan bir halktır. Dört bin yıl kadar önce Keltler, anavatanları olan Orta Avrupa’dan göç ederek özellikle Büyük Britanya Adaları’na, İspanya’ya ve Galya’ya yerleştiler. Demir Çağında Britanya ve İrlanda’nın sakinlerini Keltler oluşturuyordu. Savaşçı ve avcı oldukları kadar mükemmel çiftçiydiler. Tekerlekli pulluğu ve fıçıyı icat ettiler. Çoğu zaman birbirine rakip kabileler ve klanlar halinde toplanmış olan Keltler, gerek yaşama biçimi, gerek kültür yönünden özgün bir halktı. Ürünlerin koruyucusu sayılan kır tanrılarına taparlar, geleneklerin koruyucusu olan hem kâhin, hem yargıç niteliğindeki din adamlarının (druidler) yönetiminde yaşarlardı.
MS 1. yüzyılda Romalılar tarafından kısmen yıkılan Kelt uygarlığı, gene de, Orta Çağ’a kadar yaşayageldi. Bugün bile, bazı Breton ve İrlanda törelerinde bu uygarlığın varlığını sürdürdüğü görülür.
